Outcome

Utilising my unique blend of design acumen and understanding of machine learning and AI, I conceptualised and developed an industry-first software solution. This groundbreaking tool empowers litigators by synthesising and quantifying data from state superior court judges. Despite the complexity of our data, I managed to present it in a digestible format for a traditionally number-averse audience, allowing lawyers to transition from subjective anecdotes to hard, data-backed insights. This innovation led to Gavelytics winning prestigious awards and securing a patent, solidifying our reputation as a trailblazer in the legal-tech industry.

Gavelytics

The Company

Gavelytics, pioneered by former LA Litigator Rick Merrill, is the embodiment of the transformative power of AI in the field of law. Our mission is to provide an objective view of judges' tendencies, employing AI to decipher extensive litigation data for meaningful, actionable insights. Our continuous innovation has made us a beacon in legal analytics and technology, setting new standards in the industry.

The Context

Joining Gavelytics as the third team member, I was entrusted with the challenging task of transforming legal software from traditionally text-heavy and uninspiring to visually stimulating and insightful. My mandate was clear – to assist lawyers in assimilating information and facilitating data-backed decision-making, all without having to dive deep into exhaustive text, a far cry from the norm in legal software.

The Role

As the Product Designer at Gavelytics, I embraced the challenge of weaving our Subject Matter Expert's knowledge into a comprehensive product that expertly balanced business objectives and user needs. My role extended beyond design, involving strategic decisions on product development that helped define the Gavelytics experience. I also had the privilege of naming the company and designing its logo, further embedding my contribution into the fabric of the organization.

Gavelytics
Edgar is an exceptionally talented UX/product professional. He shepherded our product from concept to launch, resulting in tremendous first year sales and market penetration. After Edgar moved, it took years and multiple people to fulfill the roles he did all by himself. On top of his proven track record, he's a stellar teammate. Edgar is like the best point guards -- he makes everyone around him better. He taught me how to understand and categorize customer feedback, how to translate that feedback into a product roadmap, the power of data in good design, and how to think about shipping product in a tech startup. He's the quintessential "team player" and made our team greater than the sum of its parts. I'm confident that anyone who works with Edgar will benefit professionally and personally, as I did.

Edgar took a rough set of ideas and formed them into an award winning product by methodically gathering information and feedback and transforming them into brilliant, customer-centric designs. We would not be where we are today as a company without Edgar's insight, knowledge, experience and dedication. He is top-notch.
